After farming together since 1983, Stephanie Wallace and Roger Hunter really know what it takes.

Based in the heart of the Hauraki Plains, Stephanie Wallace and Roger Hunter are busy managing two dairy farms.

With 37 years, under their belt so far, they know it’s not always smooth sailing and have had to play a number of roles in their business.

“We have to be an HR expert, a lawyer at times, an accountant [among other things],” they say.

Reflecting on their experience, they can see the value of being a part of the Fonterra Co-op.

“ It’s in the dairy farmer’s best interest that the dairy industry has a strong Co-op, to ensure a balance between corporate and mum and dad dairy farms “

The couple believe the tools and field resources available through the Co-op made a positive difference in the way they understand their role on the farm.

Recently, they were impressed by the quality of their Farm Environmental plans.

“It was so good to have something like that done for you by someone who is understanding of dairy farming,” Roger says.

Stephanie adds that the report was personal and encouraging.

Acting as their primary connection to the Co-op is local Area Manager Jill Pauling, with whom Roger and Stephanie enjoy their relationship.

“The beast is so complex, we could never keep up with the change,” Roger says. “You can ring up the Area Manager and they just know. “

Stephanie adds that because the Area Manager builds up a knowledge of their farmers when certain farmers ask for help, they know what is warranted.
