Fonterra is partnering with The South Island Dairy Event (SIDE) 2026 to support the event and inspire South Island dairy leaders through practical learning, innovation and capability building.
SIDE returns to Lincoln University from 13–15 April 2026, with a strong focus on the future of dairy farming and the people shaping it. With the theme “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders to Turn Knowledge into Value,” SIDE remains New Zealand’s leading dairy conference run by farmers, for farmers.
“SIDE brings farmers together in a way that’s practical, energising and grounded in real on‑farm experience,” says Fonterra’s Regional Head for the South Island Mat Cullen. “We’re proud to support an event that helps farmers strengthen their skills and confidence for the future.”
The three‑day programme features ten interactive workshops, a dedicated field trip to an apple orchard and a new dairy conversion, and three keynote speakers.
A highlight will be a breakfast session with independent economist Cam Bagrie, offering insight into key challenges and opportunities facing the dairy sector and how farm businesses can adapt in uncertain times.
“The power of SIDE lies in farmers speaking directly to farmers, our workshops turn ideas into practical outcomes.”

Event Committee Chair
SIDE 2026 continues its strong focus on leadership development. The event is organised by an Event Committee of farmers progressing through equity partnerships, contract milking and farm management roles.
“This is an event for our future generation, organised by our future leaders,” says Governance Group Chair Glenn Jones.
This year, SIDE has taken a refreshed approach, stepping away from traditional trade stands to partner with organisations that genuinely support and invest in the future of dairy. Event partners including Fonterra, BNZ, LIC and DairyNZ will play a key role in the 2026 event, bringing expertise, insight and commitment to farmers to the forefront. Glenn says he is excited to have these organisations on board and looks forward to working closely with partners who share SIDE’s values and long‑term aspirations for the dairy sector.
Limited discounted Earlybird registrations for SIDE 2026 are now available at www.side.org.nz, where attendees can also find full programme and workshop details.
