Since the launch of a key data integration between Gallagher and LIC, more dairy farmers are seeing the benefits of smarter, faster decision-making thanks to better connectivity between their herd and animal performance systems.
Through the partnership, animal liveweights captured using Gallagher’s weighing and electronic ID solutions are automatically transferred to LIC’s MINDA platform via the cloud. Since going live in February, uptake has steadily grown, with 67 herds now connected and over 172,000 liveweights already transferred – a strong start that signals the value farmers are seeing in seamless, accurate data sharing.
Once recorded in the field, the data syncs wirelessly and securely, with no cords, buttons, or manual steps required.
This streamlined integration, available to Gallagher Animal Performance Plus subscribers, eliminates double-handling and reduces errors. It makes accurate insights more accessible to support breeding, feeding and health decisions that directly impact productivity and profitability.
“It’s a great example of technology working for the farmer, not the other way around,” says Gallagher’s Animal Performance and Traceability Business Development Manager, Mark Maitland.
“We know how valuable liveweight data is, but only if it’s easy to collect, easy to access, and actually used. This integration does all three.”
Heifers that reach their weight targets at mating and calving are more likely to become high-producing cows, have better fertility outcomes, and stay in the herd longer – all of which contribute to improved lifetime performance and stronger financial returns. But without clear, up-to-date data, underperformance can easily go unnoticed. That’s where the integration is already making an impact.
“The moment an animal is weighed, that data is visible in MINDA,” Mark explains. “That means farmers can act earlier – whether it’s adjusting feed, identifying potential health issues, or making more confident breeding calls that protect both herd performance and the bottom line.”
The benefits also extend beyond individual farms. “By contributing to a broader set of benchmarking data, farmers are not only improving their systems – they’re lifting the performance and profitability of the industry overall,” he says.
Importantly, farmers remain in full control of their data throughout. “We’re not here to own farmer data. We’re here to help farmers get more value from it, by making it available where and when it’s needed most. This partnership is about putting that control back in the hands of the people on-farm,” says Mark. “Whether a farmer’s goal is more efficient cows, improved reproduction, or hitting liveweight targets, this integration is one more way we’re helping them get there.”
