How one Waikato farmer uses data to improve farm performance

For Waikato farmer Jo Sheridan, using data is part of a regular day at Owl Farm. From animal health to sustainability, her team uses data to inform their practice on-farm.

Key to this is their personalised Farm Insights Report. The report uses information provided by farmers in their Farm Dairy Records, alongside milk quality and production data, and industry data, to provide potential areas for fine-tuning farm efficiency.

"The big thing that it enables us to do is to benchmark against our peers. We’ve got a lot of data at Owl Farm for our farm year-on-year, but what we love to see is when the data is compared to other farms around us in the Waikato, similar system… that’s where there’s some really cool information," says Jo.

We sat down with Jo recently to talk through exactly how she uses her Farm Insights Report to guide decision-making on farm.
