AIMER puts farmers in control of pasture management

  • Pasture & Cropping

Pasture can be one of the farm's most lucrative assets but only if managed well. There are a range of software packages on the market to help on farm but not all are created equal. AIMER provides actionable pasture insights and optimised grazing and supplement plans - saving farmers hours each week with the power of AI.

AIMER was designed specifically for New Zealand farmers by Jeremy Bryant, a dairy farmer turned AgTech innovator. The product launched publicly last June at the National Fieldays and has gone from strength to strength proving itself on farm around the country.

Jeremy says AIMER is unlike any other pasture management solutionon the market.

"It is a bit like having that really brainy pasture-management coach on hand who can test ideas, run scenarios, optimise decisions, generate grazing and supplement feed plans - and share the insights in a way that makes sense to farmers."

Touted as a "digital assistant for farmers to optimise the way they manage pasture", the tool generates accurate pasture cover estimates through measuring a portion of the farm ('part farm walk'). Farmers using the app say this has saved them hours.

"To do a whole farm walk it would take four to five hours every week. Using the part farm walk in AIMER, we can be done in 45 minutes. AIMER then generates a grazing plan so anyone on the team can confidently walk out and put the cows in the right paddock," say Paparimu-based sharemilkers Fraser and Amber Carpenter.

"It has revolutionised how we manage our pasture. Pasture is our biggest asset outside of the herd. With AIMER, we have more data at our fingertips to make better decisions around how we use available pasture. It's easy and simple to use."

Farm Source's team has entered apartnership with AIMER providing Co-op farmers with an 8% discount off the monthly subscription, when paid for through a Farm Source account.

"AIMER has been on our radar for a while through our innovation pipeline. Its creator, Jeremy Bryant, has been in the farmer's shoes and knows first-hand what is needed on farm, and that has come through in the technology," Fonterra Procurement Specialist Shane Laurich says.

"We have a great relationship with AIMER and our TSRs are all receiving training in the tool to help on farm. AIMER is a great tool for our farmers searching for a way to improve pasture management, and it's a very competitive discount for our farmers."

Using farm walk or pasture cover data, the clever AI behind AIMER weighs up all possible paddock and mob combinations on any given day and creates grazing plans to best utilise available pasture. With AIMER farmers can take control of their pasture management and finetune grazing and supplement decisions to maximise pasture utilisation and convert more pasture into farm profit.
