K-Line® for low-cost irrigation and effluent solutions

  • Water

K-Line modular systems offer irrigation and effluent options allowing portability and expansion of the system as budgets allow or as the season demands it. The K-Line system applies water or effluent slowly ensuring the soil has time to absorb moisture and nutrient in the very best way. It also operates at low pressure using 3bar at the sprinkler or lower helping to keep the operating cost at a minimum.

K-Line® Irrigation

Every parcel of land has its own characteristics. Is it flat, or does it have some rolling shape? What is the water source? Effective irrigation can improve the return on any piece of arable land, and even make unproductive land viable. K-Line, with its above ground system of networked pipes and sprinkler pods, has changed the type of land that is economic to irrigate.

The key is to get the moisture where it is required into the soil and not pass through the root zone into the sub-soil or drains. K-Line achieves this with its very low application rate.

  • K-Line is designed to be moved in a grid pattern to get the best water utilisation for an area. Moving the pods is easy to do, any farm labourer can do this comfortably.
  • The size of pipe and irrigation pod can be varied to contend with the required water output for the pasture.
  • Applying the right amount of water in the right places and doing it at relatively low pressure, means that we are maximising energy efficiency.

K-Line® Effluent

When setting up your effluent dispersion system it is important to get the right advice to ensure you are compliant and efficient. Your requirements together with hydraulic analysis, pressure requirements, pump sizes, power systems, budget, and soil risk levels will determine the options.

As K-Line Std only distributes the liquid portion of the effluent and has 4mm nozzles, it is important to eliminate solids. Solids can be removed by either a weeping wall (drying bed), multiple pond systems or solid separators. The system typically consists of a pump, main line, sub main and K-Lines. Greater amounts of suspended solids in effluent can be handled with the Mid and Max Pod options.

Assembly is so simple many people choose to install the sub main, feed and sprinkler lines themselves.

  • K-Line enables low capital outlay. In fact you only need a one pod Max system shifted 50m once a day to manage effluent dispersion for 350 head of dairy cows. With a Senninger MAX80 pod you would be compliant with current regulations.
  • Ease of dispersion. At times when the soil is too wet for a travelling irrigator the K-Line Pod can still be used. This is due to the low (instantaneous) application rates of less than 1mm per hour. There is no ponding on the pasture, run off or leaching.
  • Easily shifted. The K-Line pipe is designed for New Zealand conditions and can withstand being trodden on and dragged. The Max Pods come with camlocks for shifting individually, easily moved by any quad bike or vehicle and the pod design protects the sprinkler system from damage.
  • Management of effluent pond. By being able to disperse more for longer at a reduced rate into the soil zone, not only are you maximising the nutrient benefit of your effluent, you are also better able to manage storage. This means you can avoid effluent dispersion at busy times like calving and less risk of your effluent pond overflowing.

Whether for effluent dispersion or irrigation K-Line can help improve your soil productivity and meet your regulations. To find out more visit your local Farm Source store.
