Maximise health with multi-mineral injections

  • Animal Health

The importance of trace minerals and their effects on livestock health are well known in New Zealand.

Consequently, many farmers now routinely use trace mineral products in a well-managed programme that provides many obvious benefits such as increased productivity and improved stock health.

Trace minerals are essential to normal body function and supplementation is critical at times of high demand, such as calving, mating and drying off. Minerals such as copper, manganese, zinc and selenium have various roles that affect multiple body systems, which is why supplementation has proven, wide ranging effects on immunity, growth and reproductive performance.

Horizon Agresources NZ has recently launched two new multi-mineral injectable products - InjectaMin contains zinc, manganese, copper, and selenium, and InjectaMax contains the same formulation but with added vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) in a convenient, rapidly absorbed and safe chelated formulation.

Both products are suitable for usein calves at birth and weaning, and in cows pre-calving to boost immunity and reduce the impact of stressful periods.

The dose rate for cattle under one year of age is 1ml per 50kg, for cattle one to two years of age it is 1ml per 75kg, and for older cattle it is 1ml per 100kg. Cattle can be supplemented every two to three months in wet conditions.

As InjectaMin and InjectaMax both contain copper and selenium, it is important not to use concurrently with other forms of copper or selenium or administer at the same time as other treatments such as drenching or vaccination.

By using InjectaMin or InjectaMax, you can be confident that you have provided your stock with a supplementary source of trace minerals that is rapidly available to the animal in a form that can be put to use to provide all the benefits offered by these products.
