Finding a job in the rural sector just got easier with our new Farm Jobs website.

When it comes to making New Year’s resolutions, many Kiwis will put ‘find a new job’ at the top of their list. For those in the rural sector, finding out what jobs are available just got easier with Farm Source’s new and improved Farming Jobs website.

Unique to the rural sector, Farm Source’s Farming Jobs website provides employers and jobseekers with a single location to post and search for jobs specific to dairy farming and the wider farming community. Each year more than 7,000 jobs are posted on the site.

Farm Source’s Digital Marketing Manager, Rob Bickerdike, says the website has recently undergone an upgrade and is now built on a market leading jobs platform.

“Our farmers have been telling us how much they value the Farming Jobs website. We created it over 10 years ago to provide a space for our farmers and farm workers to find opportunities in the farming community. While not a core part of our business, it is crucially important to our farmers and the sector as a whole where it is difficult to find experienced farming staff. The old site’s platform, however, got to the stage where it could no longer be supported giving us the opportunity to look at ways to improve the service,” Rob says.

“Building a new jobs website would have been a very costly exercise but we found a cost effective ‘out of the box’ jobs website solution that is used by over 200 organisations around the world. We tested it with a selection of farmers and their feedback allowed us to refine the experience specific to New Zealand’s dairy farming needs.

“Farmers involved in testing the new site agreed that it was a vast improvement, particularly with the new job application management features. It is not unusual for farmers to get more than 100 applications for each job, and it can be incredibly time consuming to manage such a long list. The new site offers farmers the ability to easily and quickly move applications through different stages of the recruitment process; shortlisting and emailing applicants directly from the site – rather than having to download the information to manage them all separately.”

The Farming Jobs website now features new tools to make life easier for jobseekers and employers alike. As an example, when a jobseeker uploads their CV, the website will automatically pull out key information to populate their profile, making setting up quick and easy so they can get on with applying for jobs.

The new site went live in late October and within three weeks more than 13,000 job applications had been submitted. The site has more than 150,000 registered jobseekers and 10,000-plus active employers.

Support for jobseekers

With resources available to help jobseekers put their best foot forward, the new site links jobseekers with tips on writing a CV and cover letter, interview skills, and information on employment negotiations. When searching for jobs, they can be filtered by category, city/town, or region and even turned into job alerts with a summary of targeted jobs emailed directly to them.

Support for employers

New features help employers streamline their recruitment process including easy account creation, quick job posting, building an engaging farm profile, and ability to easily manage applications. It also has resources on recruitment planning, application screening, and employment agreements.
